Established in the outlying area of the old neighborhood of Chimalistac, this museum was renovated by and named after Dr. Alvar and Carmen Carillo Gil. The museum is dedicated to promote the work of young plastic artists as well as of some of the most important national and international artistic expressions showing the diversity and the evolution of contemporary art.
The 1,581 works housed exhibit works of Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, Álvar Cheek Gil etc; as well as an important modern graphical work collection of authors like George Rouault, Wassily Kandinsky, Jacques Villon, Zao Wou Ki and Hayter. There is also a fine selection of 17th and 18th century Japanese Ukiyo- e (wood- block prints of the "floating world")
In addition to exhibitions, the museum makes a series of parallel activities as Conferences and colloquies, artistic courses and factories for children and adults, guided tours etc. It also has a book store, library, cafeteria and a video room.
