1985 earthquake
The 1985 earthquake was one event that brought turbulence in the history of Mexico City that early morning of September 19. The earthquake was recorded to have a magnitude of 8.1 whose epicenter was at Michoacan state of Mexico. A total of 416 structures were leveled to the ground while at least 9,000 Mexico City residents were killed outright by that 1985 earthquake. The tremors were felt even in Los Angeles, California.
2006 earthquake
As if the turbulence in the history of Mexico City wrought by the 1985 earthquake were not enough, on August 11, in 2006 another earthquake shook Mexico. This 2006 earthquake was of lesser magnitude than the 1985 earthquake since it was only 5.9 on the Richter scale. Still, the 2006 earthquake was strong enough to make multi-story buildings sway because of the tremors, thus frightening Mexico City residents.
