This beautiful museum houses the vast collections of Franz Mayer. Franz Mayer was a German who arrived in Mexico in 1905 and fell in love with it. This wealthy financier dedicated his life to collecting rare and priceless works of art. After his death his mammoth collection has passed into the hands of the state of Mexico.

The museum threw open its doors in 1986. It takes you back to the past. It is housed in an 18th Century building. Mexican pottery objects, along with Chinese and Spanish porcelain are shown in its 8 exhibition rooms; besides furniture, textiles, jewelry and Mexican and European paintings.

The permanent collection allows visitors to gain an appreciation of decorative arts from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries, with a variety of places of origin, materials and styles. The disciplines included in the collection are silverwork, ceramics, furniture, textiles, sculpture and painting, as well as pieces in feather art, lacquer, ivory, tortoiseshell, glass and enamel.

Attending hours: Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Entrance fee: Public in general 30 pesos (less than 3 dollars). Free entrance on Tuesdays.
