The festival was started in 1965 by the Jaliscan State authorities as a means of attracting visitors to explore Guadalajaran culture which gave the world tequila and the troubadour's descendant, the mariachi. It aims at promoting tourism, industry and entertainment, which includes more than 300 special art exhibits, craft displays, parades, musical, religious, agricultural, carnival and sports events, and Mariachi.

Throughout the festival's month- long period a series of events including concerts, rodeos, football matches, folk dance displays and art exhibitions and great food, with free entertainment daily in the fairgrounds of the Benito Juarez Auditorium take place to celebrate culture.

Spectators will be able to see all of the participating Mariachi bands as well as floats, folkloric ballet groups and representatives from a variety of both local and national Charro groups.

Event is generaly celebrated from Sep - Oct 2006 (annual).
