Mexico oil monopoly grants biggest survey contract

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's state oil monopoly announced Monday that it has awarded one of its largest private survey contracts ever to French-owned CGG Veritas Services de Mexico. Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, will pay the company 3.5 million to carry out three-dimensional seismic mapping of a 30,000-square-mile (75,000-square-kilometer) area of seabed in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico . "It's a pretty big contract," said David Shields, an independent energy expert in Mexico City.
