Alfonso Reyes was a renowned humanist and has produced numerous written works but he's most remembered as one of the founding members of the Colegio Nacional, a learning center that holds an important place in the world of Mexican education.

The institute was actually established within an old convent school, founded by Ignacia Azlor de Echávez, in the early days of colonial occupation. Initially known as the Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Religiosas de la Enseñanza (Lady of Pilar School of Religious Instructors,) an institution dedicated to the formation of the minds of young girls, it later became a school for the blind, and for a short time, the Palace of Justice.

Today, the Colegio Nacional offers all sorts of interesting courses, conferences and exhibitions.
