The construction of the splendid white marble structure, the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) was started in 1904, on the remains of the Santa Isabel convent.

A crystal curtain carved with the images of the Iztlaccihuatl and Popocatepetl volcanoes is lit before performances and for public viewing, can be seen in the interiors of the place. There are also some frescos of Orozco, Siqueiros, Rivera, Tamayo and Montenegro.

The Palacio has two museums: the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Museo de la Arquitectura. The art museum has a collection of over 6,000 paintings, sculptures and engravings from 1650 to 1954 with masterpieces by famous Mexican artists such as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo.

The place apart from artistic performances is also offered for seminars, conferences and wedding parties.
